How to Sync iPhone to Computer

In the iCloud era, many users still preferred to have their iPhone data locally. By doing that, you can ensure that the same data can be accessed on your cellphone and PC. There are several ways to synchronize your iPhone to a computer. One uses cable and the other uses Wi-Fi. The process remains the same for Windows and Mac running MacOS Mojave or earlier. Before jumping to the step, let’s first understand what can be synchronized?

What can you sync to iTunes?

You can synchronize the following types of content between iPhone and your computer:

  1. Media such as songs, playlists, albums, films, TV shows, podcasts, and audio books
  2. Photos and videos
  3. Your calendar
  4. Your contact

How to Sync iPhone to iTunes on a Computer using a Cable

Make sure you have updated iTunes installed on your computer.

  1. Open iTunes on your computer.
  2. Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable.
  3. On your iPhone screen “Trust this computer?” Tap Trust.
  4. In iTunes, click the small iPhone icon near the top left of the window.1
  5. In the left menu, you can choose what type of content you want to synchronize. For example, you can choose Music and check the box next to Sync Music.2
  6. If you don’t want to synchronize your music, leave the checkbox unchanged.
  7. At the bottom of the window, click Apply.3
  8. Finally, click Synchronize.

Likewise, you can repeat the process for Movies, TV Shows, and Photos from the left hand menu.

How to Sync iPhone to iTunes via WiFi

Turn on Wi-Fi Sync

  1. Open iTunes on your computer.
  2. Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable.
  3. On your iPhone screen “Trust this computer?” Tap Trust.
  4. In iTunes, click the small iPhone icon near the top left of the window.4
  5. In the Options section, click the check box next to Sync with this iPhone via WiFi.
  6. At the bottom of the window, click Apply then Finish.5

Now, remove your iPhone by clicking the up arrow next to the device icon in iTunes.

Unplug your iPhone from the computer.

Synchronize your iPhone via Wi-Fi

  1. Make sure your computer and iPhone are connected to the same WiFi network.
  2. Connect your iPhone to the charger and plug it into a wall outlet. Synchronization starts automatically.
  3. In the iTunes application, click the device icon and the Sync button.

There she is!

If your iPhone is running iOS 12, you can synchronize manually. Go to SettingsGeneraliTunes WiFi Sync → Tap the Sync Now button.

You will be able to see the progress of the synchronization, and a notification will appear after the process is complete.
Use Third-Party Software to Synchronize iPhone with Computer

If you don’t want to use iTunes to sync your iPhone with your computer, there are several third-party options. Many of these offer further customizations and allow you to synchronize more types of files such as Bookmarks, Reminders, and Messages. Some of the popular ones include Syncios, iMazing, and TunesGo.
