How to Embed Conversations on iMessage and Other Tips

Apple often takes inspiration from popular third-party applications and services to integrate new features on iOS for the iPhone. And the latest iOS 14 continues that trend, at least it was seen in the public beta of iOS 14. Messaging on iOS 14 will bring some features and changes that are very much needed to compete with other messaging competitors. Like WhatsApp and Telegram, you can now embed conversations on iMessage. So all your iMessage groups and private message chats can be pinned at the top.

We receive dozens of messages from friends, family, banks, marketing companies every day. Sometimes, the most important messages are tucked in irrelevant messages. With iOS 14, people can easily embed the conversation above for easy access and coverage.

The default messaging application now comes with many customization options, and has performed the functions of the well-known SMS Organizer application from Microsoft. The Messages application now offers filters to make it easier for users to find the most relevant messages easily.

In this post, we will discuss how to embed or unpin a conversation on iMessage, edit that conversation, and more. Let’s get started.

How to Embed Conversations in iMessage

There are three ways to embed conversations in the Messages application. You can use swipe gestures, use the long tap option, or select several conversations at once and embed them at the top. Follow the steps below to embed the conversation in the Messaging application.

Step 1: Unlock your iPhone and open the Messaging application.

Step 2: Swipe right on the conversation you want to pin.

Step 3: You will see a yellow Pin icon. Tap on it, and iOS will pin the conversation selected above.

Users can also long tap on any conversation and it will open a small chat window with several options. You can select the Conversation pin, and the Messages application will embed the conversations selected above.

These tricks work well, but they are most useful when you want to embed a single conversation.

What if a user wants to embed multiple conversations at once? In such cases, you can check the steps below to pin multiple conversations at once in the Messages application.

Step 1: Unlock your iPhone and open the Messaging application.

Step 2: Tap the three dot menu in the upper right corner.

Step 3: Select the ‘Edit Pin’ option from the following menu.

Step 4: The message will offer the option to embed many conversations at once. You will see the same Yellow Pin icon on the right side of each conversation.

Step 5: Select the Pin icon that you want to pin above.

Applications like WhatsApp and Telegram embed conversations at the top with a small Pin icon indicator. Apple’s implementation is different and, in some ways, better than WhatsApp and Telegram.

When you embed a conversation in the Messages application, you will see a round profile avatar from the user. I like and prefer it compared to the WhatsApp implementation.

Benefits of Conversations Embedded in the Messaging Apps

You can enhance the Message experience by pinning conversations at the top. There are three advantages to using conversations embedded in the Messages application.

You can easily access the most used conversations above. When you are in an active conversation using iMessage, you will see a typing indicator at the top of your profile every time someone types in a message. That also applies to normal conversation. But it looks cool on embedded conversations. You cannot see the typing indicator in a normal message.

You can see a small preview of the unread message at the top of the profile picture in the embedded conversation.

How Many Conversations You Can Embed in the Messaging Apps

Users can pin up to nine conversations in the Messages application. This application will make a mistake when you try to embed more than nine conversations at the top. This will ask you to unpin the conversation to add the new conversation above.

Speaking of deleting embedded conversations, let’s see how to unpin a conversation in the Messages application.

How to Unpin a Conversation in the Messaging Apps

There are several ways to delete conversations embedded in the Messages application. You can use the long press function or choose the Edit Pins menu to get things done.

Long press on the profile icon and it will open a small window with many options to choose from. You can Unpin that person, Hide Alerts, or delete conversations. Select the Unpin option to delete the conversation from above.

Apple also allows you to unpin many conversations at once. Select the three dot menu at the top and select ‘Edit Pin’.

The following interface will allow you to tap the ‘-‘ icon on the embedded profile picture. Tap on it and the system will unpin conversation in the Messages apps.

Keep Conversation Above

The ability to embed conversations in the Messages application has long been delayed on the iOS system. I’m happy to see Apple finally adding an option with iOS 14 updates for the iPhone. The company’s implementation is also better than competitors such as WhatsApp and Telegram.
