How to change where new apps are placed on iPhone

Starting with iOS 14, you can choose whether to place downloaded apps on the Home screen or exclusively in the App Library on your iPhone. The last option can help you keep your Home screen tidy. Here’s how to set it up.

First, tap on “Settings”.

1

Tap “Home Screen”.

2

Look for the “Recently Downloaded Applications” section. There, you will find the following two options:

  • Add to Home Screen ”: Select this if you want new apps that you download to appear on the Home screen (default behavior before iOS 14). The application will also appear in the Application Library.
  • App Library Only”: Select this option if you don’t want new apps to appear on the Home screen. You can still manually place it there later. Instead, they’ll be in the App Library or you can open them via Spotlight Search. You can open the App Library by swiping right through all of your Home screen pages.

After you make a selection, a check mark will appear next to it.

3

Tap on “Settings” and make sure the changes are registered, and done! From now on, whenever you download a new application, it will appear at the location you choose.

If you select “Application Library Only”, you can quickly find new applications in the “Recently Added” section of the Application Library.

4

To move an app from the App Library to the Home screen, just long press the icon, then tap “Add to Home Screen” in the menu that appears.

If you select “Add to Home Screen,” recently downloaded applications will appear in an empty spot on one of the Home screen pages, as usual.

You can also move applications from the Home screen to the Application Library. To do so, just tap and hold on an empty area on the Home screen until the icons start jiggling. Tap the application you want to move, tap “Delete App”, then tap “Move to App Library”.
