Have you ever swiped your iPhone’s Lock Screen or Home Screen? That’s the Today View screen with widgets from Apple’s stock app. If you want to customize this screen, you can add and customize widgets from third-party applications and reorder everything that’s already there.
By default, Apple shows you widgets from the Weather application, Siri Suggestions, Music, Favorites, and more. But that’s not all. When you enter editing mode, you will find that many of the applications you have installed (whether they are popular or indie) include useful widgets.
You can add additional functionality to the iPhone using third-party application widgets. Here are a few recommendations:
To get started, swipe right when you are on your iPhone’s Home screen to access Today View. Here, you can swipe up to see more widgets and tap one of the arrow keys to expand or contract the widget.
Swipe down the widget screen and tap the “Edit” button to adjust the Today View screen.
You will now see a list of activated widgets at the top of the menu.
In the More Widgets section, you will find a list of widgets for the applications installed on your iPhone. One application can display many widgets.
When you find the widget you want to add, tap the Plus (+) button next to the widget. This will be directly added to the bottom of the Enabled Widget list. Do this for each widget that you want to add.
Next, swipe up to the top of the page and see the widget that is activated. You might want to place frequently used widgets at the top of the list.
To rearrange widgets, tap the Handle icon three lines found on the right edge of the screen and then drag each item to rearrange the list.
After adding and rearranging the widgets, you might want to delete some Apple stock widgets. To do this, just tap the red Minus button (-).
Tap the “Delete” button.
Once you are satisfied with your widget settings, tap the “Finish” button.
You will be brought back to your widget screen, with your new widget and new functionality added to your lock screen and Home screen.
When you install a new application, you can return to the editing screen and add a new widget to Today. See by following the steps above.
Additionally, you can add widgets to your iPhone by long pressing on the application icon. On the Home screen, tap and hold the newly installed application. If it supports widgets, you will see it in the contextual menu. This is a fast way to use widgets without even accessing Today’s Views.
And if you like the widget, tap the “Add Widget” link to add the widget to the bottom of the Today View screen.
iPad also supports widgets but is slightly different. You can actually embed the Today View section directly into the Home screen for quick access.
