How To Add Applications To The Dock On The iPad

The iPad dock makes it easy to launch favorite apps and multitasking because you can access them from anywhere with a simple swipe. With just a few easy steps, you can add any application to the dock. This is how you do it.

Why Use the Dock?

The Dock is a collection of favorite application icons at the bottom of the screen available with a sweep in any application. With the dock, you can easily launch your favorite applications. It plays an important role in multitasking iPadOS too. When using an application, you can bring up a dock and drag different applications to the screen for Split View or Slide Over functionality.

Depending on your settings, your iPad dock can also display recently used applications, which can be useful for finding applications that you use frequently quickly. (If desired, you can turn off multitasking in the Settings application.)

How to Bring up the Dock

To open a dock anywhere on your iPad, either in the application or on the Home screen, slowly swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen until the dock appears. Lift your finger after the dock is in place, and it must stay on the screen.

Be careful not to swipe too far: If you continue to swipe up, you will launch the Application Switcher. If you swipe up too quickly, you will return to the Home screen.

How to Add an App to the iPad Dock

Adding applications to the dock on iPadOS is easy. First, navigate to the icon page on your Home Screen that contains the application you want to move to the dock.

Hold your finger on any application icon until a small menu appears. Tap “Edit Home Screen”.

The application will start jiggling, and some will have an “X” circle in the top left corner. That’s how you know you are in edit mode.

Place your finger on the icon, want to move to the dock, and start dragging towards the dock at the bottom of the screen. The dock will stretch to make room for it, and you can choose the order of the icons on the dock by sliding the application icon until you find a position like. Then, release your finger to “drop” the icon on the dock.

After that, tap the small “Finish” button in the upper-right corner of the screen (or press the Home button on the iPad that has one), and the application will stop jiggling. You have now left the Edit mode.

At any time, you can call the dock and access the application you placed there. Simply swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen, tap the application I want to run, and you are in business.

How to Remove an App from the iPad Dock

To delete an application from the dock on iPad, repeat the process above, but instead of dragging the application icon to the dock, drag the icon out of the dock and return to the Home screen. Simple and easy.
